Talks / Biog

No Text I believe that everybody is capable of writing creatively and I aim to build confidence and offer encouragement and inspiration.

Over the last few years I’ve facilitated many workshops and given many talks all over the north west.

I’ve spoken at Bolton & Bury Children’s Book Festival, Trafford Wordfest and Birmingham Young Readers. I’ve taken workshops in schools and libraries in Stockport, Manchester, Bolton, Blackburn, Bury and the Isle of Man.

I was engaged by Knowsley council to work with hundreds of year 6 pupils across the borough as part of The Excel Experience. I facilitated sessions called 'Let's Think About Creatve Writing!' which encouraged youngsters to read and write.

My sessions usually last about an hour or so and several sessions can be held in one day to suit. I usually work with children in years 4 – 7 (one class at a time), but I’ve also been asked to talk to adult writing groups. Basically, the whole thing is very flexible.

Please get in touch if you would like me to come and talk to your group. Hopefully we’ll be able to sort something out to meet your requirements.

Teacher’s feedback after visit to Prestwich library:

“We thoroughly enjoyed listening to Steve’s talk about writing. The children were entertained and came back with real confidence about their ideas. It was particularly encouraging for lower ability writers. Thanks!”

“This was a thoroughly enjoyable event for children and adults. The children were engaged with every aspect of the talk. It also gave me, as the class teacher, a few good ideas.”

Children’s feedback after the same visit:

“He told us about his book and it was really great that visit, I loved it.”

“I never really liked writing, but Steve made it interesting.”

“It has made me want to be a writer when I am older.”

“It was right funny and entertaining.”
